Lakshmi Mohanbabu is the first person in the world to send art to both outer space and the deep ocean floor.

Drawing on a life shaped by diverse experiences—from her early years in Soviet-occupied Afghanistan to a background in architecture, design, and international collaboration—she brings together people, institutions, and disciplines that do not ordinarily intersect. Her approach is shaped by systems thinking and a belief that meaningful ideas often emerge through unexpected connections.

This has led to a series of first-of-their-kind undertakings, including work that has travelled to the International Space Station, is destined for the Moon, and was installed 7 kilometres beneath the ocean surface—the deepest creative installation ever realised.
